Gemini has been through more reinventions than any other assistant, and the current version finally feels like a coherent product. I spent three weeks using it the way most people actually would: through Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and the standalone app. The verdict is unusual — where you use it matters more than how smart it is.

The strengths

Workspace integration is the reason to buy

Ask Gemini to summarise a week of email threads, draft a reply that matches a colleague's tone, or pull the relevant rows from a Drive report, and it genuinely works. Because it can read your actual documents, the answers carry context no other assistant has without extra setup.

Deep Research is excellent

Give it a question and it plans a search, reads sources and produces a cited report you can interrogate. For briefs and market scans it produces work that would take hours by hand — with citations you can verify.

Strong value and long context

The paid tier packs a lot for the price, and the huge context window lets you feed it whole documents and codebases before asking. Reasoning on long inputs is where it shines.

The weaknesses

Prose that needs editing

Good summaries, flat bylines. Gemini writes competently but without the voice and rhythm of the best writing models. Marketing copy and long-form essays come back needing real edits.
