Embedding

A numeric vector that represents the meaning of text, an image or another object so that similar items sit close together.

Last updated

An embedding maps content into a list of numbers in a high-dimensional space. Items with similar meaning end up near each other, which lets software measure similarity with distance metrics such as cosine similarity. Embeddings are the backbone of semantic search, clustering and retrieval-augmented generation, because they let a system find relevant material without matching exact keywords.
