Context Window

The maximum amount of text, measured in tokens, that a model can consider at once.

Last updated

The context window is the combined budget for the system prompt, conversation history, retrieved documents and the model's reply. Exceeding it forces older content out or causes errors. Larger windows allow longer documents and richer conversations, but they cost more and do not guarantee that every part receives equal attention.
